December 5th, The New England Patriots made a special visit to the wounded warriors and other veterans at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Coach BILL BELICHICK has long had a strong connection to the Navy. Team physician DR. MATTHEW PROVENCHER worked at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego for 16 years as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon and Director of Sports Medicine before joining Massachusetts General Hospital and the Patriots.
“I’d say the moving things were just how appreciative they were of us being there,” Belichick said. “But the reality of it was, they’re the heroes. Not us. Even more than that, the real heroes are the ones that didn’t come back.”
“This was an incredible experience for the wounded warriors, the Patriots, and military community. This exemplifies the mission of the Kraft Organization and the New England Patriots giving back to the community to acknowledge the many sacrifices and contributions from the military community,” said DR. PROVENCHER.
“Again, a lot of players commented to the impression that it made,” Belichick said. “I certainly felt it. We can all talk about it, but when you actually connected individually, face to face, hand to hand with those people, the impression is just a little bit stronger. It was a great, great experience.”
