Ahead of Sunday’s Chiefs-Chargers game, the NFL, in partnership with the Chiefs, gave a behind-the-scenes health and safety tour showcasing the Kansas City Chiefs’ medical efforts at Arrowhead Stadium.
Communication and preparedness are essential for the medical team, who stay ready to respond to any emergency that could happen.
Another critical piece of preparation is the 60-minute medical meeting before kickoff, during which the home and away medical teams review protocols and other important information.
“At that point, they review the emergency procedures unique to the stadium. They go over all the equipment, their signs, their signals. They meet each other, exchange information, and confirm their communication systems,” said Dr. Allen Sills, MD, FACS, Chief Medical Officer for the NFL.
“So I think it’s the most important thing we do on game day.”
Another essential part of game day health and safety is the sideline medical tent.
