What role do team physicians play in the NFL Draft?

The team physicians of all teams evaluate the players participating in the NFL Draft. This evaluation is extremely comprehensive and occurs at the NFL Combine. There are two categories: an orthopedic assessment and a medical assessment. In both categories, physicians share information regarding players’ conditions, MRI results, etc. Next, the team physicians along with their athletic training staff assess every player who is going to be available for the NFL Draft and provide a report to their team’s scouting department, the head coach, the general manager and the front office about the medical condition of each player. This information becomes very important in a team’s assessment of whether or not a player will be drafted.
