New York Giants head physician, Dr. Scott Rodeo, has received one of the NFL’s Physicians Society’s top research awards.

While at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, Rodeo was presented with the Arthur C. Rettig Award for Academic Excellence.

Rodeo won the award for his presentation, “Current Update on Clinical Use of Biologics in Musculoskeletal Injury,” which provided an updated summary of the current status of treatments for soft tissue healing.

“It is an honor to receive an award in Dr. Rettig’s name, as he epitomizes the true ‘team physician’ who has made so many important contributions to orthopedic sports medicine over the years,” Dr. Scott Rodeo said via NFLPS. “I also thank my colleagues in the NFL Physicians Society, who as a group continue to set the standard for the highest level of professionalism in providing comprehensive care for athletes.”

The award is given annually to an NFL team physician for academic excellence in research in advancing the health and safety of players in the NFL.

Rodeo has been the Giants’ head physician since 2015. Prior to that, he was an associate team physician with the Giants from 2000-2015. He has also served as the team physician for USA Swimming in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
